Trained as both teacher and carpenter, our instructors enjoy the best of both worlds in Job Corps. The instructors teach hands-on to provide the best possible training in entry level carpentry skills, fundamental hand and power tool use, essential construction procedures, practical trade mathematics, work ethics, basic blue print reading, and layout skills. Becoming an Apprentice - An apprentice is someone who is learning the trade by working under the guidance of journeyworkers. It is on-the-job-training. You earn while you learn and are paid a wage from the first day you become a working apprentice. As an apprentice your wages will start at about 50% or higher of the journeywork rate of pay and will increase periodically until you reach the full journeywork.
Cement Masonry offers classroom and hands-on instruction for students considering employment in the cement industry.
Description:
This course covers basic heavy construction with an emphasis on placing and finishing all types of concrete flatwork, concrete repair, chaulking, basic stucco work and formwork . Classroom work is included so students understand the basic principles of the trade. This course is labor intensive so students should be prepared to work. Fulltime students can expect to complete trade in 8 months, part time students 12 months.
Training:
- Concrete flatwork includes sidewalks, patios and hard trowelled slabs such as garage floors and basements.
- Formwork for slabs and walls.
- Site preparation including layout, excavation, grading, compacting and Bobcat training.
- Basic Hawk and trowel skills (stucco).
- Concrete restoration including drypacking, rubbing and patching walls and floor resurfacing
- Stampcrete (decorative concrete flatwork )
- Training with a Bobcat (small front end loader), 90 pound Jackhammer, power trowel and basic hand power tools.

Description:
CompTIA A+ certification is an international industry credential that validates the knowledge of computer service technicians with the equivalent of 500 hours of hands-on experience. Major hardware and software vendors, distributors and resellers accept CompTIA A+ as the standard in foundation-level, vendor-neutral certification for service technicians. The exams cover a broad range of hardware and software technologies, but are not bound to any vendor-specific products. The skills and knowledge measured by the CompTIA A+ exams were derived from an industry-wide and worldwide job task analysis. Culinary Arts offers classroom and hands-on instruction for students considering employment in the food industry.
Description:
Students learn the skills and acquire the knowledge for an entry level position in the food service industry through production of food items and baked goods with a focus on large volume, speed, accuracy and safety. A Foundations course is required and is provided prior to the Culinary Curriculum. The training provides is outlined by the prestigious American Culinary Federation and provides education and certification in The National Restaurant Associations, ServSafe Program. In addition the program is enhanced with catering on and off center, and with guest Chefs, and related field trips.

Description:
The Job Corps security trade has special requirements for entry. To qualify, you must be at least seventeen years of age. A drug test will be administered upon entry into security and a subsequent test will be administered prior to completion. As part of a student’s background check, a criminal history search will be conducted. Students must complete a physical fitness test prior to completion of the program. This is a self-paced course, allowing the student to work at his or her own level.
