Are you interested in the different types of welding and working with large machinery? Have strong attention to detail and can properly use and maintain tools? 

Then you may be a good fit for Job Corps’ Millwright-Welding training program. Pre-apprenticeships are focused on preparing students for a successful experience in a Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP). That means your hands-on training will be based on industry standards in order to prepare you for high-skill, quality employment.

On the job you will …

  • Demonstrate the ability to recognize job site hazards and take appropriate safety measures
  • Have the ability to read a print, perform layout procedures, select correct material, identify and properly use power tools, hand tools and reamers in a safe manner
  • Demonstrate proper welding machine grounding techniques
  • Test malfunctioning machinery to determine what repairs are required
  • Install, disassemble and move industrial machinery and equipment

Most Millwright-Welding Job Corps graduates go on to work for factories, manufacturing facilities, construction sites, power plants or mines. 

Students should also consider pursuing the Advanced Welding training area and other Advanced Training programs at Job Corps as part of their career pathway

The credentials you will earn ...

n the Millwright-Welding program, you can earn industryrecognized credentials from such organizations as:

  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)

  • Amercian Welding Society (AWS)

  • United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC) 

Students should also earn a state-issued learner’s permit and driver’s license upon completion of the program.

What you’ll need to start training ...

  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent (can be earned at all Job Corps centers)
  • Completion of all introductory and career preparation courses
  • Passing scores on all written and performance tests
  • Meet academic (math and reading) requirements
